Dialogue with Yaku Murakami
No Boundaries Between Art and Life
On the way to Mr. Murakami's home, we could still see
patches of lingering snow.
The ceramic artist so many admire - how exactly does he create his works?
Without hesitation, he pulled out a chair and began to demonstrate right before us.
The most touching moment was when he said:
"I believe that what makes a form beautiful is not the outline or boundary itself,
but the atmosphere it creates around it. Rather than constantly refining the shape in
pursuit of that 'final touch' of perfection, true beauty often resides in the spaces and
margins that are intentionally left behind."
And at the very end, Mr. Murakami looked into my eyes and said,
"I really enjoy listening to your stories. Keep doing things your own way. “
It was an immense affirmation and encouragement.
